Poverty among children and young people: a violation of children's rights
Child poverty is globally recognized as a violation of children's rights. It is a persistent and complex social problem that affects every aspect of the lives of children, young people, and their parents.
Poverty reflects social inequality, as society fails to redistribute resources sufficiently for everyone. Children, young people, and their families living in poverty can therefore make only limited use of available social resources due to inadequate household income. Moreover, they often lack access to essential, high-quality services such as healthcare, education, housing, a safe and supportive living environment, youth services, socio-cultural and leisure activities, childcare, mobility, and public spaces.
The Pelicano Child Poverty Foundation Chair enables us to conduct research into the importance of combating child poverty.
